Stressful Week

Last week was a very stressful week for me. Darin was out of town for several days. During that time, I had to call a plumber to come back to check out the wet spot on the ceiling in the foyer. The plumber was here two weeks ago and fixed some things in the upstairs guest bathroom and we thought the problem was fixed. The plumber cut a hole in the ceiling and we discovered that the problem was actually condensation from the air ducts. The combination of the hole in the ceiling, opening vents on the first floor, changing the thermostat to 72 degrees and cooling off outside seem to have fixed the problem. Now, we just have to decide what to do about the hole in the ceiling. Also while Darin was out of town, I had to make a decision about whether to interview for a position outside of my current company. I chose not to do it because the position would very much have been a lateral move. Last week, Hunter had the worst diaper rash ever. I actually took Hunter to the doctor about the rash because it was so bad. The doctor wrote a prescription for something that the pharmacy actually had to mix. It is called Magic Butt Cream. The name cracks me up! It works though. His bottom is still not completely healed a week later but it sure looks better than it did. In addition to all the things going on while Darin was out of town, I was trying to prepare to leave Hunter overnight for the first time without me or Darin. Pat had graciously volunteered to watch Hunter so that Darin and I could go to a family friend's wedding in Kentucky. We didn't end up going to the wedding because Hunter got sick.

I noticed on Thursday night that Hunter had a fever, so Darin stayed home with him on Friday. I thought Hunter would be well enough for us to still go to the wedding on Saturday. At 3am on Saturday morning, we took Hunter's temperature and it was 103.5 after already taking ibuprofin and Tylenol. We were worried about his temperature being so high and the potential for seizures, so we took him to the emergency room. The doctor and nurses there were so gentle and kind. The doctor explained that generally seizures occur when a fever comes on very quickly and usually occur within the first 12 or 24 hours (can't remember which she said) of the child having a fever. Hunter had a fever for more than 24 hours and it slowly climbed to 103.5, so he wasn't really in danger of having a seizure. He was diagnosed with acute upper respiratory infection. The nurse helped us figure out the exact ibuprofin and Tylenol dosages for his weight instead of the weight range that all the charts give. Hunter woke up on Saturday morning fever free, but it came back later in the day. He still had a fever today until late this evening. Hunter has been drinking well, but hadn't eaten much since Thursday lunch at daycare. He did finally eat something this afternoon. Our big decision now is if he is ready to go back to daycare tomorrow or not. Hunter sleeps so much better at home. He takes two naps at home and only one fairly short one at daycare.

Pics from Hunter's sick day at home with Daddy:
Hunter loves pulling the hand towels off the handle on the oven. He walks around with them and then throws them down when something else catches his eye.

Hunter fell on the kitchen floor and busted his lip.

Hunter was looking at Daddy in the reflection on the oven door.
