Two weeks ago, Hunter moved up to the next classroom at daycare. Hunter loves his new classroom, teacher, and classmates. Ms. Kathy, the lead teacher, is teaching them sign language. Whenever she says a word, she signs it to them too. She does some of the cutest stuff with them. Each day, she has an actual lesson plan. It is so cute to pull of the web cam and see the babies sitting in a circle near Ms. Kathy. They don't have to participate, but as soon as she sits on the floor - the babies crawl to her.
The young teacher, Ms. Amy, from his first classroom moved with him over to his new classroom. Hunter is now eating three meals a day in addition to nursing/bottles 5x's a day. Yesterday while sitting in the high chair waiting on his breakfast at school, he stole another little boy's pancakes. Hunter eats mostly baby foods, but apparently, he liked the pancakes that he stole. Hunter loves the other babies. As soon as you put him in the high chair, he is grabbing at the children next to him. He and Sophia were holding hands the earlier this week.
Hunter is doing really well at everything in his new classroom except napping. On a good day, he is only getting a total of 1 hour of naps. He is so tired when he gets home that we are usually aiming to get him to bed between 6:30 - 7:00pm. He is then sleeping between 12 - 12.5 hours. The sad part is that we don't really get to play with him at all during the week. It is pretty much, get him up and ready for daycare and then bring him home, feed him dinner and get him ready for bed. I was so worried about the transition from the infant room into his new classroom, but Ms Kathy told me this morning that it is usually the hardest transition for the parents. Hunter loves his new classroom, the freedom to roll and crawl in an open space that is completely child proof, and hanging with his older friends again.
We have had the SAME problem. Shelby also moved to the older infant room in January and her napping is nonexistent now!! She usually naps once a day, around midday for about an hour. I think it's because there is so much more going on in that room - babies crawling, walking, playing etc. She is usually pooped at the end of the day and falls asleep on the car ride home. At home I can still get her down for a morning nap pretty easily, but then she is not ready for a second nap until much later - around 3:00, which then makes her not tired for bedtime. It's a tricky transition for sure, but I am not too worried about it. Did Hunter drop a nap or does he just take two short naps now?
ReplyDeleteHunter still takes 2 naps, but they are each max 30 - 40 minutes long. He takes take good naps for a total of up 4 hours on the weekends. It is frustrating that he doesn't sleep well at daycare because he is so overtired by the time he gets home at night and is sleeping 12 - 13 hours straight a night. I know I should be happy about that, but really I just miss him. It is all about rush, rush to get him ready in the morning and then rush, rush to feed him dinner, bath him and get him to bed at night.
